A visit to a neighbouring country is always worth the journey. Please be aware of the following points: when making a trip to Switzerland, Austria or Liechtenstein, always have your identity card or passport with you.
When using the motorways in Austria, you are obliged to buy a 'Vignette'. You can buy a vignette for 1 year, 2 months or 10 days. They are available from German automobile clubs, or at petrol stations and post offices in the border area. For several route sections you have to pay additional street charges. Vehicles with a maximum permissible gross weight of more than 3.5t hzG need a GO-Box which must be installed in every vehicle. Further information
Buses travelling in Switzerland with two axles should not exceed 13.5 m (with more then two axles 15 m). Additionally, instead of the vignette, a so-called heavy vehicle fee will be levied. The fee should be paid at the customs office on the border.
