Friedrichshafen is a town in motion – which also applies with regard to sport. The volleyball team members of the club “VfB Friedrichshafen” demonstrate that the aim of the game is not only fun, but also top results. The championship titel this year was the eighth altogether for the VfB members and the eighth double-title. Over the last 10 years, the record German title-holders have won 17 out of a total of 20 possible national championships. An impressive score!
The atmosphere in the ZF Arena at home matches is also impressive. During the days of matches in the Bodenseehalle, the Friedrichshafen VfB fans were already looked upon as the 'seventh player' on the field. Nicknames such as 'Madhouse of the League' or 'Witches' Cauldron' sum up the level of enthusiasm generated above all by the top players, which sets the sports hall on fire. Friedrichshafen has developed into the stronghold of volleyball in Germany, not only thanks to the consistantly high level of achievement of the 'Firsts', but also due to the successes of the junior teams. The VfB team attracts spectators not only from the area around the town of the Zeppelin, but also from the entire region. Thus the volleyball players have become sporting figureheads and spokesmen. At long last, in 2003, the VfB was able to make use of a suitable sports hall, as the former trade fair hall was converted into a sports arena. The equipment and fittings not only meet the demands of European highest level standards, they also provide a magnificent fan backdrop for 4,500 people.
