Shopping on the banks of the lake

An enjoyable, expansive shopping experience doesn't have to be confined to major towns and cities. What's more, there are not many places which can offer the very special ambience of a lakeside town. Which means, whether you're popping out to buy something quickly, or if you're planning a longer shopping tour - Friedrichshafen is the place to be. Perusing the goods in a young-fashion store, or enjoying a relaxed conversation in a café with a panoramic view of the lake and the Alps - here you have the ideal combination. The docking area for ships and the katamaran has been home to the 'House of Media' K42 since the end of 2006, with its many different retail stores and cafés.

And if you haven't had enough after the shopping tour in the centre of town, the Bodensee Center offers more shopping and varied evening entertainment with different restaurants, cinema and a bowling centre - and after the shops are closed Friedrichshafen is a great place for going out and enjoying yourself.

More information about special events and shops:

Karlstraße is the perfekt starting point for your shopping trip. The street leads down to the lake and,  shortly before the shoreline, takes a left turn towards the town-centre. After that it continues further, parallel to Seestraße, and on to the Zeppelin Museum. This tour offers plenty of possibilities for a culinary break, along with further discoveries.

Apart from the pedestrian precinct, there are further shopping areas, where you can discover hidden treasures.

Many farmshops offer fresh fruit from the Lake Constance area, both in traditional form, or as beverages.

Weekly markets offer local produce and specialities of the Lake Constance region and a colourful hustle and bustle. Tuesday mornings on the Charlottenhof and Friday mornings on the Adenauerplatz. There is also the culinary market on the Adenauerplatz every Saturday from 9am to 2pm with mediterrean flair and seasonal highlights in every month. And in December the smell of mulled wine and gingerbread lies in the air at the Christmas market on the Adenauerplatz with its festively decorated stalls in a lovely setting of snow-covered alps.
