Tour 5: From Thurgau to Reichenau – on the trail of art and history

Route: Romanshorn, Kesswil, Altnau, Kreuzlingen, Konstanz, Insel Reichenau, Allensbach, Markelfingen, Radolfzell
Length of tour: ca. 58 km
Highest point: 436 m
Description: easy

The fifth day trip begins with the ferry crossing to Romanshorn. The first leg will lead you through the Swiss canton Thurgau, along splendid paths, the lake always within view and then over the border once more at Kreuzlingen, to Constance. You should allow yourself sufficient time to visit the historical old part of town, before traversing the Rhine bridge in the direction of the island Reichenau. The path crosses a causeway onto the island which, with its three Romanic churches, was granted the accolade of UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001. Having rounded the island on your bicycle, you'll cross over once again onto the mainland and, passing Allensbach (known for its polling firm), on to Radolfzell. From there, you can take the train back to Friedrichshafen.
